Settling Isn’t An Option

Updated: Jun 27, 2018

Dating can be so exhausting.

Sometimes we think it might be easiest just to settle for a good enough relationship—give it a go and see what happens.

For my upcoming book, I interviewed many women who settled.

They got tired of the dating scene.

They figured the relationship they had was as good as it gets.

They feared if they let go of a mediocre connection, they’d be alone forever.

They walked down the aisle knowing in their gut it wasn’t right. They dismissed their intuition and pushed forward.

They took the option to settle.

But the problem is—the option to settle really isn’t an option.

Because eventually our authentic self begins to fight back. She didn’t want this life in the first place—and now she wants out.

Our settling results in a lack luster marriage or infidelity or divorce—or all three.

Settling never works. So maybe we should stop making it an option.

To dig deeper into this topic, take a listen to my conversation with Ané Auret on her podcast, Ready for Love.

We talk about how to know if you’re settling and what to do about it!
